Our group is actually involved in the analysis of cellular mechanisms and components used by Flaviviridae family members such as Dengue, Zika and Yellow Fever virus to enter, replicate, inhibit the cellular immune response and exit the host cell. This study has allowed us to find cellular factors that favor and others that avoid viral multiplication in infected cells. With this information we have identified molecules and components that are capable to block viral infection and we are testing their usefulness as antivirals in cell culture systems and in animal models. On the other hand, we work on the identification of cellular communication mechanisms such as exosomes in mosquito cells and their participation in Dengue virus pathogenesis.
